Drug Nab | Montgomery Police Nab 2 In Drug Sting

Two suspects are in custody today following a drug sting by the Montgomery, Alabama Police Department. In the operation police confiscated 104 grams of crack cocaine, which has a street value of over $10,000.

Narcotics investigators learned that a drug deal was going to take place in the 2200 block of East South Boulevard and set up surveillance. Narcotics and SWAT units observed the transaction. When officers approached the two suspects involved, they fled in separate vehicles.

One was stopped in the 2100 block of Woodley Road. He had ingested a small amount of crack cocaine and was taken to Baptist Medical Center South. The suspect was treated, released, and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a charge of possession of crack cocaine. The suspect's identity is being withheld pending further investigation.

The second suspect fled to the Regency Park area. Adaryll Lewis, 30, of 4525 Sawston Court was arrested in the 4500 block of Wimbledon Road. He was in pos session of 104 grams of crack cocaine, and was charged with trafficking in cocaine.

Birmingham Police Investigate Unexplained Random Shootings

Local police in Birmingham, Alabama are investigating shootings that injured two men on the city's west side. Shortly before 9:30pm, police were called to an apartment building on Bessemer Road near Eufala Avenue where a man was shot in the lower left abdomen. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital.

Police are busy piecing together what happened, but have very little to go on. All the victim could tell them was he heard gunshot, then felt some pain and realized he had been shot. At the same time, a man showed up at Princeton Baptist Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the left wrist. Birmingham police are trying to determine if the two incidents are related.

33-year-old Jarred Scott Drake is wanted for probation revocation on a charge of robbing a pharmacy. You might see him around Gardendale or northern Jefferson County. Crimestoppers also needs your help finding 29-year-old Kelvin Fields, who is wanted for failure to appear on a robbery charge. You could see him around east Birmingham or Irondale. They are also looking for 38-year-old Cleophas Dewayne Davidson, who is wanted for probation revocation on a charge of first degree assault.

Civil Rights Institute | Visit The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

Visit the Soul Soldiers special exhibition at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute through the end of the year. The exhibit tells the story of the impact of the Vietnam War on African American life and culture by examining both the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute has been open since 1992, and represents the fulfillment of a vision put forth by its founders back in the 1970s. Today, the institute recognizes the importance of remembering who and what has come before, and the groundwork laid by early pioneers.
