Pilot Honored - Captain Chesley Sullenberger To Be Honored In Huntsville

12 March, 2010

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who was the US Airways pilot who miraculously guided a badly damaged aircraft to a safe landing in the Hudson River, will be honored by a local Huntsville, Alabama organization that represents Medal of Honor recipients.

Sullenberger will be honored at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration in Huntsville, where he will receive the American Spirit Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. He piloted US Airways flight 1549 to a spectacular river landing in January 2009, preserving all 155 lives on board.

Captain Sullenberger successfully averted what surely would have been an air and ground disaster because he was prepared for just such an emergency. Being prepared for the unexpected at home is no different, and an ADT monitored security system should play a central role in your emergency preparedness plans.

Man Assaulted - A Man Entering His Hotel Room Was Assaulted With a Bottle and Fire Extinguisher

2 March, 2010

A 38-year-old Florence, Alabama man was charged with beating another man at a local motel with a bottle and a fire extinguisher. The suspect is charged with attacking a 43-year-old man who was returning to his motel room. The man apparently opened the door to his room when the suspect hit him on the head with a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, then grabbed a fire extinguisher and hit him on the head and face.

The victim was admitted to the hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

It's very unfortunate that motel rooms don't have security systems. As these kinds of stories pop up, you wonder if hotel and motel establishments will ever get to that point, or if they can do something else to ensure patron safety. An ADT monitored home security system can help you be safer at home, and with the convenient panic button on the included wireless remote control, you can instantly sound an alarm in the event of an emergency.

Up A Creek - Judge Fired For Paddling Inmates

23 February, 2010

A former Mobile County circuit judge who happened to be acquitted last year of charges that he sexually abused inmates has been disbarred by the Alabama Bar Association. The five-member panel decided on disbarring Herman Thomas after a closed hearing Monday in Mobile. I guess the state had finally gotten their fill of Thomas and his blatant disregard for, well, manners.

Alabama’s State Bar general counsel, Tony McLain, said the disciplinary panel ruled that Thomas definitely violated the rules of conduct for judges when he paddled jail inmates. He was also cited with improper communication with defendants.

Thomas's attorney, Robert Clark, said the former judge plans to appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court. I’d take him seriously, too, or you just might get paddled!

Animals In Alabama Jail - Goat And Accomplice Dog Arrested For Vehicle Assault

16 February, 2010

Okay, here’s the setup: Goat and Dog were just chillin’ roadside, kickin’ it in the sun, when along came a lady from Capshaw and totally harshed their buzz. It happened Sunday morning when the woman saw them playing on U.S. 72 in northern Alabama.

The woman stopped because she was afraid they’d get hit, so busy were they just playing and frolicking Sunday morning. You can guess what happened next, I mean considering it was Goat and Dog. That’s right! Goat jumped on her car and simply wouldn't come down. Why should he, it’s Goat! Fearing scratches and dents in the car’s paint job, she called the Limestone County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy arrived on the scene and got Goat down, securing him in the back of his patrol car. Not to be left behind or separated from his buddy, Dog jumped into the back of the patrol car, too! At the end of the day, Goat was arrested, the Mercedes-Benz was assaulted, the woman needed a stiff drink, and Dog came along for the ride.

Just another Sunday morning in Limestone County, Alabama!

High Gas Prices Raise Truck Driver's Blood Pressure - Anger Issues Get Out of Control

9 February, 2010

A Pinson, Alabama man was charged with attempted murder after he drove his truck through the window of a Jefferson County service station. The 49-year-old man pulled into a BP station on Alabama 75 in Pinson Sunday morning, and this is where it all went wrong for him.

Apparently, he got into a dispute with the clerk because the pump was turned off. Like most stations in Alabama (and elsewhere across the U.S.), it has a pay-first policy. Reasonable precaution if you ask me. Anyway, the man walked back to his Ford Explorer and drove straight through the plate glass window and into the counter.

Guess how the cops finally got him under control? If you just said “taser” or “stun gun” you’re the winner! Authorities were cordial enough to let him get treated by paramedics before hauling him off to jail on charges of attempted murder and resisting arrest.

His bond is set at $63,000. What is that, about 10 gallons of gas these days?
