U.S. Captain Mary Joe Fernandez had been holding a spot in anticipation that either Serena or Venus would be recovered enough from a left knee and leg injury, respectively, to play against Russia this weekend in Birmingham.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. “I waited until this moment in hopes that I would have an opportunity to play, but I am being advised by my medical support team that I will need more time to recover,'' Venus said in a statement to USTA.com.
Fernandez said “She's [Venus] been trying to get better. Obviously I knew it was going to be tough for her because she hurt herself at the end of the Miami tournament and couldn't hit balls until the last week or so. I did everything I could do to give her as much time as possible to see if she got better. She's not quite there.''
The Fed Cup will be shown on the Tennis Channel, which is available through DISH Network, on April 24 – 25, beginning at 1 PM.
As a fan of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls and The Food Network’s Unwrapped, I was doubly pleased when my favorite Alabama bakery was featured on the Unwrapped episode titled “Feel Good Foods” on March 22nd. You bet I recorded it on a DVR that comes with most DISH Network packages.
I enjoyed the interior footage of the bakery, as well as the interviews with founder Patricia Barnes and workers. I learned that Sister Shubert’s Parker House Style yeast rolls are the country’s best-selling frozen dinner rolls, and the bakery is set up to produce more than two millions rolls per day.
Sister Schubert’s rolls are available nationally in grocery stores, or you can order them online at sisterschuberts.com. I know it sounds terrible, but I have passed these off as my own for quite some time. Shhhh! This is our little secret.
A proposed constitutional amendment to remove the state's 4% sales tax from groceries is set to be considered in an Alabama House committee. In tough economic times, part of the job of government is to help people stretch their budgets. Savings on groceries bills is certainly one way do that.
On Wednesday, the Alabama House Education Appropriations Committee will take up the bill that would remove the sales tax from groceries. The issue was one of the most contentious discussed by the Legislature last year. It came up for a vote four times in the House, but supporters failed to get enough votes to bring it up for debate.
Why wait to figure out ways to make every dollar count? The daytime programming on Food TV available in some DISH Network packages is filled with cooking shows designed to help you stretch every dollar. The tips and tricks you learn will have you making food your family will love on probably a lot less money than you’re spending today!
Alabama Attorney General Troy King says Alabama will join 12 other states in a lawsuit against the federal government to challenge provisions of the newly passed federal health care legislation.
King believes the bill that passed Congress last Sunday tramples state sovereignty by requiring people to have health insurance and by taxing people for not having insurance. King will join the attorneys general from Florida, South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Louisiana, Michigan, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington, Idaho and South Dakota in bringing about this lawsuit.
Governor Bob Riley says not only does his administration question the constitutionality, but says the state can only pay for the 400,000 new Medicaid qualifiers by cutting from existing programs and raising taxes.
Follow every angle of this landmark healthcare bill and subsequent lawsuit on DISH Network at C-SPAN News, CNN, Fox News, and your local network affiliates throughout Alabama. Don’t miss a minute of history being made!
